Even in lockdown, Leora Yates is still bringing home the awards

Leora Yates is a Masters weightlifter based in Victoria who continues to prove that no matter your age, you can achieve amazing things within our sport.

At 44 years old, Leora has won a string of state, national and international competitions. This two-time Masters world champion has won every Masters competition she has entered since she started in 2017.

She was just announced as the winner of the Maccabi Outstanding Masters Sportswoman of the year in Victoria and Australia for the second year running. After all her hard work, Leora definitely earned it.

Due to COVID-19, the 2020 Masters World Champs that were planned to be held in the USA later this year have been cancelled. We are still waiting to hear whether or not more competitions will be held in Australia in late 2020. So this year may just end up being a big building year for athletes like Leora around the world but there’s no doubt we will be seeing more of her in the future and hope to see her bring home some more gold from the 2021 Worlds, if they do go ahead.
