Joshua Ward

Co-Owner / Australian Reporter

After being in the game now for about eight years, either training or competing, I have branched out to create TWP to improve access to the sport that we all love. This platform will give athletes, coaches and other participants within weightlifting to chance to express themselves and to be seen the way they want to be seen.

I believe that weightlifting shouldn’t be confined to the shadows any longer, and the media is the best way to combat that issue head-on.

Dan Wood

Co – Owner / Editor

I’m a novice lifter with over six years experience as a journalist and editor. When I first decided to try weightlifting in 2019, I found precious little information about the sport online. So I co-founded The Weightlifting Platform with Josh to fix that.

I aim to make TWP the best, most engaging and most entertaining source of weightlifting news in Australia. I hope it will enrich our community of existing athletes, and encourage curious, budding athletes to give weightlifting a go.

Ray Everest

New Zealand Reporter

Tena tatou katoa,

My name is Ray Everest. I have been involved in our sport here in Aotearoa since 2014 as an athlete and coach, and I am a current member of the OWNZ Executive Group and co-host of the podcast Weightlifting Yarns. I am a massive weightlifting super fan, who loves all aspects of our sport.

I am currently based in Papamoa and coach out of Bay of Plenty Barbell. I have coached at a few internationals with my greatest coaching experience being part of an amazing group that went to Junior Worlds in Fiji last year.

I look forward to bringing a Kiwi spin to The Weightlifting Platform.

Australian Reporter

I discovered the world of strength sports when I was 15. I looked up to all the badass CrossFit women and wanted to be just like them. In 2018, I decided to switch to weightlifting, I started my coaching journey in late 2019.

Being part of someone’s weightlifting journey and being able to help them reach their goals by being part of their team or support network makes me happy. I will start studying my undergrad (biomedicine and exercise science) in 2021.

Chris Ackland

Video guy

Hey guys,

My name is Chris and I’m the owner of Iron Tribe Weightlifting Club. I embody the classic CrossFitter to weightlifter story: I found CrossFit, then found weightlifting and never looked back.

I hope to help grow the sport through awesome videos and helping tell the stories of athletes. I would love to see either major sponsorship deals come to the sport in Australia or, at the very least, give athletes the opportunity to grow their individual brands so they can receive the support they need to be the best they can. I am thankful to be a part of TWP and love watching what Josh and the team come up with as it truly has the sport and athletes’ best interests at heart.
